Oceanside is a stunning coastal city that you can find on the southern coast of California. It’s the third-largest city in San Diego County and it has a population of 167,000 people. It forms a tri-city area with Vista and Carlsbad, CA.

Just like many other cities in the region, Oceanside was originally inhabited by native Americans. The first European explorers reached the region in 1769 and they created the Mission San Luis Rey De Francia on a former Indian village. It was during the early nineteeth century when things took off, mainly because the region was introduced to grazing and farming. Most of the region was under Spanish / Mexican rule, until it was finally part of the U. S. in 1848.

During the 20th century Oceanside has been mainly focused on beach activities and recreation. Some of the buildings have great historical value, and at the same time there are plenty of major businesses that come here.

Oceanside has a semi-arid climate. That means there are winds from time to time, but the temperatures are pretty even. It’s the perfect place for those that want to have a good time at the beach and enjoy life.

It might seem strange, but the top employers are the local municipality itself, the Mira Costa College and the Tri-City Medical Center. Some of the other companies that have lots of employees here include Select Staffing, Genentech, Milagro Ranch and Hydranautics.

When it comes to attractions, Oceanside does have plenty of those. For example, here is the only place where you can find the California Surf Museum. You will also find the historic district of Mount Ecclesia in Oceanside, widely known for the unique architecture and the interesting meditative experience. Of course, you have the iconic Oceanside Pier as well.

An interesting thing about Oceanside is that it has its own Turkey Trot that hosts around 10,000 runners. And as any podiatrist, such as Dr. Berthelsen will tell you, this is a lot of feet to take care of!

Oceanside is also the place where you can find the Race Across America starting point, an extremely popular bicycle race. In addition, the Top Gun movie with Tom Cruise was filmed here, so it’s quite an interesting place to visit and explore.

When it comes to education, Oceanside does have multiple quality schools like the Bonsall Union School District, Oceanside Unified School District and the Vista Unified School District. There are 2 comprehensive high schools in the region too, as well as 3 charter schools.

All in all, visiting Oceanside is a pleasure and one of the greatest experiences that you can have when you visit California. It’s definitely not the largest city out there, but it’s unique, visually distinct and it does contains plenty of cool features and iconic locations. And living here is even better. For the residents who do live here and need a podiatrist, then calling Foundation Foot & Ankle for an appointment will be a good first step. Call today!
